The day after the European elections results, we hear everywhere that young people supposedly voted mainly for the National Front. The subject is too important to settle for sensational statements that would make young people appear as the main culprits for the National Front’s score.
To avoid oversimplifications, letโs revisit the Ipsos-Steria poll conducted on the eve of the vote, on which all media are relying, and try to understand what the reality is. 27% of young people aged 18 to 35 reportedly went out to vote last Sunday. 30% of them allegedly voted for the National Front, meaning that 8 out of 100 registered young voters chose Marine Le Pen’s party. It seems shocking to us to report that 30% of young people voted for the National Front…
It should also be noted that according to the same poll, 41% of those aged 35-59 reportedly went to vote and that 27% of this age group chose the National Front, which equates to 11 out of 100 voters…
While these figures remain concerning, the real question is to understand why 73 out of 100 young people did not turn out to vote in this election.
