Paris has (finally!) unveiled the logo for its Olympic campaign at 8:24 PM. This symbolic image of the bid for the Olympic Games was projected onto the Arc de Triomphe, as well as the Town Hall of Marseille.
This marks the kickoff of a dense and rich week that culminates on February 17 with the official submission of the candidacy file to the IOC (Phase 1).
On this occasion, the complete project for the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be unveiled at the Philharmonie de Paris. The vision for the Games, all the chosen competition and hospitality sites, the legacy offered by the Games, and the manifesto film will be presented, and the website www.paris2024.org will be launched.
The official logo (and its visual identity) is presented as a stylized blend of the Eiffel Tower and the number 24. It is a new creation by the agency Dragon Rouge, which has previously worked for the IOC (โOlympic Museumโ in Lausanne), PSG, and LOSC. The initial idea was to โcreate a rallying symbol, a collective movement that unites and mobilizes all French people.โ
This Paris 2024 logo has won people over. It is described as โmagnificent,โ โelegant,โ โdynamic,โ and particularly evocative; it will adorn the Champs-Elysees with decorations on both sides of the famous avenue.
With a very strong potential for appropriation, it is “both dynamic, iconic, aesthetic, and symbolic, conveying a positive message of openness, celebration, and modernity. It reflects the kind of Games that Paris dreams of offering to the world in the summer of 2024,โ according to the official Paris 2024 statement. This logo addresses a dual challenge of citizen mobilization in France and international recognition.
โToday is also the moment to offer ourselves to the entire world. This logo is synonymous with openness that everyone can embrace. It is a symbol of freedom, expression, and French expertise. It embodies the dimension we wanted to give our event,โ stated Bernard Lapasset, co-president of the Paris 2024 Committee.
The visual identity of Paris 2024 magnificently reflects the values and ambitions of the candidacy. It stands out for its relevance, modernity, boldness, and elegance. And uniting the Arc-de-Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower in a single design is a beautiful symbolism.
According to Tony Estanguet, co-president of the Paris 2024 Committee and a member of the IOC, โThe challenge was significant because this logo had to carry strong values while remaining highly accessible. Everyone can adopt it and reproduce it easily. At the same time, it faithfully reflects our project and highlights what makes Parisโs bid unique.โ
Dragon Rouge, the renowned design agency, envisioned this Paris 2024 logo with the guiding idea of creating a rallying sign, an undeniable collective movement to unite and mobilize all French people. This demonstrates citizen support for this project, one of the crucial criteria for gaining the IOC’s approval and the favorable vote for this bid to host the โCentenary Games.โ
A movement that evokes the silhouette of the Eiffel Tower, a symbol of โFrench expertise,โ has become the rallying sign of an entire city and nation, an emblematic, evocative, and unifying monument that concentrates all aspirations for 2024. The symbol of an unalienable legacy provided by the greatest events organized in Paris.
I am delighted by this step forward that stimulates and proves progress towards important deadlines but is so promising for this โDream of the Games,โ so dear to all French people, athletes or not, and the entire Olympic Movement, fully united behind this vital candidacy.
Having tested this logo right after its release with my SKEMA students in luxury and communication, originating from about thirty countries across our seven campuses worldwide, I am reassured and pleased that this logo has managed to speak across all languages and cultures and truly reflects the depth of this prestigious bid.
All that remains is for us to hope that the dream becomes a realityโฆ And that, at our level, the Provence Alpes Cรดte dโAzur region is unanimous and ready to demonstrate its enthusiasm under all circumstances and events.
