Tomorrow marks the start of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games. A total of 162 athletes will participate under the French delegation, including two athletes registered with clubs in the Alpes-Maritimes.
The wait is almost over! The 2026 Winter Olympics return tomorrow. The competition will take place from February 6 to February 22 and will include 16 Olympic disciplines. For this 25th edition of the Olympics organized in Italy, 162 athletes, including two alternates, have been selected. This is a record delegation, surpassing the previous one set in Sochi in 2014 with 116 athletes. Within the delegation, 90 men and 72 women will represent France, including four who will be participating in their 4th Winter Olympics, Benjamin Cavet (freestyle skiing – moguls), Perrine Laffont (freestyle skiing – moguls), Chloé Trespeuch (snowboard cross), and Romain Heinrich (bobsleigh). Although none of the athletes on the list are natives of the Alpes-Maritimes region, two athletes registered with clubs from the area will honor the department.
The two athletes representing the Alpes-Maritimes
Licensed at the Isola 2000 club, Julia Pereira will represent the region in the snowboarding discipline. The youngest French athlete to win a medal at the Winter Olympics at the age of 16, the Azuréenne is determined to go for gold and has every chance. This is because the Frenchwoman won the last stage of the World Cup on January 18. A result that has certainly boosted the athlete’s confidence, “It’s my second World Cup victory in almost nine years of career, so it’s cool […] I am even more thrilled that it’s three weeks before the Olympic Games. I think I needed this little boost,” she stated on RMC.
The other athlete is Adam Siao Him Fa, licensed at the Nice Baie des Anges Association and a double European champion in figure skating, with his eyes set on the Olympics. “I want to have an exceptional competition […] The Games are the holy grail for any athlete, it’s the highest level of competition,” he shared with Eurosport. A goal he wanted to prepare for thoroughly. “I really wanted to have a real preparation phase before the Olympic Games, a big six-week training phase, to prepare myself under the best conditions.” The French skater also chose not to participate in the European Championships to optimize his preparation.
