For five years, the In&Out Meetings โ the Nice Gay and Lesbian Film Festival โ have hosted an event in Nice, at the beginning of spring, for 10 days of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, and Trans) Cinema. Organized by
FAMILY that one seeks to establish despite obstacles and prohibitions, FAMILY that one tries to protect when its uniqueness makes it vulnerable, FAMILY that fails us when it rejects our difference, the substitute FAMILY that one recreates when the original one eludes…
Many films, both fictions and documentaries, selected in the 2013 program, provide viewers with new insights into this societal issue, which seems to remain one of the most subversive, as sociologist Didier Eribon has thought for over 10 years: “The will for normalization does not bother me. I don’t see why gays and lesbians are systematically asked to assume their subversive role as if it were their duty. โBe subversive while we are conformists,โ seems to be what the rest of society tells them. The claim for marriage, often presented as reactionary, is actually more subversive than the discourse of subversion. It has a destabilizing effect on the family, sexual, and gender order, much stronger than incantatory subversion.” A viewpoint confirmed by the extent and intensity of the refusals.
With In&Out 2013, curious minds, which we know are numerous based on the attendance figures of recent editions (3,348 spectators in 2011, 3,889 spectators in 2012), will be able to discover premieres, unreleased films from the largest international festivals as well as numerous guests and fantastic evenings organized by festival partner establishments (CโFactory, Smarties, Glam, and Malabar Station in Nice).
