This Thursday, September 22, at the Thรฉรขtre National de Nice, starting at 2:30 PM, the last conference of the cycle proposed as part of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Repatriation of the French from Algeria will be held, organized by the concerned associations and the City of Nice.
Throughout the year 2012, topics such as the settlement of Algeria, the รvian Accords, the tragic events of March 5, 1962, in Oran, the Harkis, and the Exodus have also been discussed in Nice.
This final conference will focus on “The Army and the Draft.” After the screening of archival footage from the National Audiovisual Institute, the following speakers will take the stage: General Franรงois Meyer, on the topic of “Supplementary Forces”; Guillaume Zeller, journalist and grandson of General Zeller, on “Unpublished Views of a Major Witness”; and General Patrick Clervoy (Military Health Services) on “Traumas within the Army and the Draft.”
The next event as part of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Repatriation of the French from Algeria is a play entitled “Algerian Childhoods,” which will be performed at the Thรฉรขtre National de Nice from December 14, 2012, to January 12, 2013.
Directed by Jacques Bellay and texts by Albert Camus and Mouloud Feraoun, the Director of the Thรฉรขtre National de Nice, Daniel Benoin, has programmed this creation by Jacques Bellay, based on the texts of Albert Camus and Mouloud Feraoun, entitled “Algerian Childhoods.” This show aims to revive the love for the Algerian land and the sea shared by these two men who, born the same year, grew up in the “lavish poverty” of a luminous country.
This play will close out the Fiftieth Anniversary year and serve as a bridge to the Camus Centenary in 2013.
