Speaking on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Alpes-Maritimes committee of the League Against Cancer, Christian Estrosi stated: “Our region can be proud of its track record and nurture the greatest hopes.”
“The fight against smoking is a priority for you. It has always been one for me as well. But tobacco lobbies remain powerful and this fight is a long-term one,” he concluded.
For the record: The World Health Organization classifies tobacco as a type 1 carcinogen, on par with air pollution.
As part of the campaign against lung cancer, Nice has four smoke-free beaches: Centenaire, Lenval, Saint-Hélène, and Bains militaires.
A fifth will be established in front of the Mediterranean University Center (CUM).
