The story begins with a nightmarish scene: Vincent Degas, a well-known lawyer from Nice, is found lying in the middle of a bustling shopping arcade, stabbed by a stranger… Or maybe not a stranger? Amidst pain, shock, and confusion, he catches a glimpse of his assailant’s terrifying smile amidst the panicked crowd. A cold retrospective clarity then overtakes him, and suddenly, the beads of his whole life fall through his memory…
Thus, Vincent Degas invites the reader to journey alongside him through the hurried life of a “well-born” young man from Nice’s middle bourgeoisie, a lawyer destined for a brilliant career whose proven talents first manœuvred within his father’s law firm. A firm he would, in fact, end up heading himself. But alongside this remarkable social climb, Vincent Degas must also build his personal life.
And that is where the problem lies! To be continued…
About the Author
A lover of words, he escapes into novels of all kinds that he devours daily.
French and foreign literature, historical and contemporary novels, his role models are Philippe Claudel, Laurent Gaudé, Eric Emmanuel Schmitt, and more classically Albert Camus, Victor Hugo, Guy de Maupassant, as well as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Yasmina Khadra in foreign literature.
By definition a man of communication, through his roles, through his passions, writing was a no-brainer, a dream turned reality, almost a given. “Que Rien ne Bouge” is his first novel, a fiction that is like him, that is like you.
