The 1323 residents of Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée did not choose her just for her official titles. Certainly, she is a Knight of the National Order of Merit and of French Courtesy. But Thérèse Fabron wants to remain above all close to her voters and attentive to their needs. “I know the families from father to son, the problems of each.” Her priority? “That people feel good at home. Share in their joys, in their sorrows, and that they come to see me at the slightest problem.” Originally a postal worker, she describes her attitude as “a continuity in the dedication [she has] always had.” Proximity and dedication, essential qualities for managing both Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée, Auron, and the hamlets in the commune.
A Dynamic Commune
But the well-being of the Stéphanois also involves the development of tourist and sports activities and structures. “I would like our village, our resort, and our hamlets to become great, to be talked about everywhere.” Sports are on the agenda, with this year’s “Tour de France, and the French Alpine Skiing Championship.” Media events and a potential rise towards the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. “We are thinking about it, we are talking about it,” confides the Mayor. According to her, Christian Estrosi “is ready for anything” for this Tinée Valley that is so dear to his heart. The Games, a long-term project that shouldn’t overshadow the key objectives. “We need more beds and tourist residences. We must develop activities like mountain biking, so that people visit outside the winter season, almost all year round.” And make the Mercantour, like the Côte d’Azur, an essential destination for tourists from all over the world.
