-This evening, March 9 at 8 PM at the Opéra de Nice

-The third edition of the famous charity evening JAZZ AT THE OPERA organized by the Rotary Club Nice Maeterlinck, which this year will transport us to Latin America.

-Enthusiasts will delight, as the Nice Jazz Orchestra has concocted a program that will make the walls of our beautiful Opera house tremble. Pierre Bertrand, who has always surrounded himself with the greatest soloists of the Côte d’Azur, will pay a fervent tribute to the monuments of the Latin-American style, to those musical artists who were the first to merge American jazz with popular Latin music, giving birth to a multitude of ever more fiery Latin rhythms.

On the program:

-Dizzy Gillespie, the famous trumpeter who was the first to mix the rhythms of Cuba with those of American “big band jazz”.

-Lalo Shifrin, the pure jazz Argentine pianist hired by Dizzy Gillespie who composed great film scores (Bullit, Dirty Harry) or series (Starsky and Hutch, Mission Impossible).

-Antonio Carlos Jobim, who gave birth to bossa nova by mixing Brazilian popular music with jazz standards.

-Tito Puente, the symbol of Afro-Cuban music found at the forefront of all popular currents of Latin music. He is credited, among others, with the huge hit “Oye Como Va”.

-The guests:

-Frederic Viale will be Astor Piazzolla, the famous bandoneon player who brought jazz to flirt with tango.

-Gilles San Juan will be Carlos Gardel, known as “the magical tenor of tango”.

-Minino Garay, renowned Argentine percussionist, a permanent guest of the NJO.

-François Arnaud, virtuoso violinist from our region (Opéra de Nice) who has accumulated first prizes from the Conservatoire National de Région de Nice and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon, who has joined Jazz.

-GENEROUSITY FOR THE BENEFIT OF RESEARCH

The proceeds will be entirely donated by the Rotary Club Nice Maeterlinck association.
