WORKSHOP: 2 PM / 3 PM / 4 PM: “NEMATODES, SMALL WORMS DEVASTATING OUR CROPS”.
The genome of this nematode was recently sequenced by an international consortium led by researchers from Sophia-Antipolis. They discovered that this genome contains nearly 20,000 genes (compared to 25,000 in humans).
To discover this incredible nematode, come dissect, observe, and understand its short life cycle and exceptional fertility that allow it to infest our crops quickly and irreversibly.
EXHIBITION: “PLANTS AND CO.: BUILDING SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE”
In the context of sustainable development and biodiversity preservation, promoting agriculture that uses fewer chemical products for plant protection, while maintaining its competitiveness, has become a national and European challenge.
The exhibition “Plants and Co.: Building Sustainable Agriculture” presents the research problems tackled by researchers at INRA, CNRS, and the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis within the Sophia Agrobiotech Institute to address this plant health challenge.
You will discover plant parasites and the arsenal of attacks they have developed since ancient times to ravage our crops (record fertility rates, manipulation of plant cells, bypassing plant resistance mechanisms, etc.).
To protect our crops, various solutions exist. Those presented to you are alternatives to all-chemical methods, for sustainable agriculture!
FILM SCREENINGS:
– Presentation of research conducted at the Sophia Agrobiotech Institute, Plant Health Center, by INRA, CNRS researchers, and faculty from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis in the film “Plant Health Center”
– The film “Kill to Be Born” is a scientific-detective investigation across Europe that reveals the behavior of killer insects with astonishing capabilities. These killers play a significant role in regulating insect populations.
The day will conclude with an Electro Aperitif dedicated to MERAKHAAZAN.
Leading the double bass in contemporary electro-acoustic settings, Merakhaazan (French performer/soloist born Jean-Christophe Bournine) presents a personal view of string music recitals.
