The European Movement-France for a stronger involvement of Europe in the Maghreb countries

Latest News

The European Movement-France is concerned about the situation in Libya. It wishes for the European Union to express itself more clearly and firmly to condemn the ongoing repression against the Libyan people and to take strong measures such as breaking all relations with Mr. Gaddafi’s government and freezing the assets of Libyan leaders in Europe.

According to the European Movement-France, “as for our relations with the new governments in Tunisia and Egypt, a strong gesture is needed, which the European Movement-France is still awaiting. It would be appropriate to propose to these two countries a form of privileged partnership that includes close cooperation in all areas and financial aid that is more than symbolic and granted as soon as possible.

The European Union must understand that over the coming months, a destiny is likely unfolding on the other side of the Mediterranean that concerns both the peoples experiencing these revolutions and the Europeans. The stability in Europe has everything to gain from the emergence of democratic countries capable of finally building an open economy and society, able to retain the youth, a youth often well-educated and ready to take charge of their country’s development.”
