Music Conservatory: Concert Evening with the BRASS BAND

Latest News

Saturday, March 26, 2011, starting at 9 AM at the National Conservatory of Regional Radiance, Nice

The National Conservatory of Regional Radiance of Nice, in association with the conservatories and music schools of the Alpes-Maritimes and Monaco, is celebrating the instruments of the brass family (trumpet, cornet, horn, trombone, tuba). A hundred students and teachers will participate in this day. This year, the Conservatory welcomes Antoine Curรฉ, professor at the Conservatoire National Supรฉrieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.

Antoine Curรฉ began playing the trumpet at the Music School of Bayeux. In 1970, he joined the Conservatoire National Supรฉrieur de Musique de Paris in Ludovic Vaillant’s class. He obtained two first prizes there: in trumpet and chamber music. He won the gold medal at the G. Viotti International Competition in Vercelli, Italy, as well as the second prize at the Toulon International Competition. He is also a laureate of the Fondation de la Vocation. Initially a solo trumpet at the Concerts Colonne, in 1981 he joined the Ensemble Intercontemporain led by Pierre Boulez, as a soloist. He still holds this position.

In 1988, he was appointed as a professor at the Conservatoire National Supรฉrieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. In 1994, he created Midtown, for two trumpets, by Philippe Fรฉnelon, as well as the French premiere of Hans Werner Henze’s Requiem in 1996. He also premiered Metal Extension by Yan Maresz, Tokyo 2005 by Masakazu Natsuda, and the solo trumpet piece La couche du temps by Hitomi Kaneko.

Brass Band

This ensemble, punctuated by percussion, brings together all the brass instruments, from the cornet ร  pistons (the highest pitched) to the tuba (the lowest pitched), including the flugelhorn, alto saxhorns, baritones, euphoniums, and trombones. This original ensemble with nuanced sounds was born from a wonderful initiative: to gather, in one group, the best “brass” musicians of the department and provide them with a particularly favorable environment to express their talent. Behind the project are Gรฉrard Hostein, trumpet professor and director of the Music Conservatory of Antibes, and his friend Philippe Bleuez, a professor at the Conservatory of Nice. Over 8 years ago, these two musicians decided to bring together students from music conservatories, amateur musicians, and professionals.
