The association “Accueil Femmes Solidarité” is organizing a private sale of artworks by artists and the Video Performance “Fed up with being submissive” by the web artist “METCUC”, on November 24, 2010, at the Auditorium of the Mamac in Nice.
There are days we wish we didn’t have to celebrate! Yet the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is now on November 25. It is important to remember that in France, as everywhere in the world, women die almost every day from the blows of their partner, husband, boyfriend, brother, or father…
In 2008, 166 women succumbed to mistreatment, and 675,000 women experienced domestic or family violence. In France, one in ten women would be affected by this type of behavior and, contrary to what many imagine, across all social backgrounds. Unfortunately, few women file complaints against these actions, and some even believe it’s not serious or even normal, going so far as to make excuses for their abuser.
In this context, the Nice association “Accueil Femmes Solidarité” has chosen to pay tribute to this day this Wednesday, November 24, starting at 2:00 PM with the video performance “Fed up with being submissive” by the artist METCUC, which will be illustrated by a photo exhibition taken during the shoot by Jean-Charles DUSANTER.
To combat the difficulty of finding funds and allow this association to continue existing, many visual artists sensitive to this cause have donated one of their works to the association for a private sale that will be held at the same time.
