Operation “Helping Hand” for Hervé Ghesquière and Stéphane Taponier in Nice

Latest News

On May 13, they will have spent 500 days in captivity. Let’s not forget them.
This Friday, May 13, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the Louis Nucéra Library, on the occasion of the 500th day of detention of Hervé Ghesquière and Stéphane Taponier, the city of Nice is mobilizing and joining the national operation “Helping Hand for the Hostages.”

This operation was initiated by the Hostage Support Committee in partnership with Reporters Without Borders, represented by Geneviève Roussel, delegate of the Alpes-Maritimes, and the Club de la Presse 06 Méditerranée.

On Friday, May 13, after a text is read by Daniel Benoin, director of the Théâtre National de Nice, everyone is invited to place their thumbprint on a sheet of paper, possibly with their signature, to “lend a helping hand” for the release of the two hostages.

Hervé Ghesquière and Stéphane Taponier were kidnapped on December 29, 2009, along with their guides, Mohammed Reza, Ghulam, and Satar, in the Kapisa plain in Afghanistan, by a group of Taliban. They were on assignment for the program “Pièces à conviction” on France 3. This detention is the longest since the French hostages in Lebanon in the 1980s.
