Christian Estrosi officially presented the “Tour de Nice Métropole” yesterday at Villa Masséna. A new cycling competition open to all to discover the most beautiful sites of the department. 7 stages with the ascent of the most beautiful passes of the Métropole.
Christian Estrosi and the City found the perfect timing to present this new cycling race right in the middle of Paris-Nice, during the upcoming press conference “Nice celebrates the Tour” in the presence of Christian Prud’homme, the head of the Tour de France. Nice will host the first individual time trial of the Grande Boucle on July 1st. It was therefore fitting to highlight the creation of the “Tour de Nice Métropole.”
Nice is one of the most athletic cities in France. Many cyclists enjoy the bike paths and the most beautiful passes of the Métropole (1). This new race will further spotlight the City and let many discover its treasures. However, you will have to pay €795 all-inclusive to be able to start (2). The organizers will provide you with a sports bag for your personal belongings, an official event jersey, and your bike plate with an electronic chip and various brochures. They will also handle the transfer of your belongings, your full-board accommodation, as well as medical and technical assistance.
Participants will be fully supported by a following team until their placement in mountain hotels upon arrival. During the 7 stages (3) of the competition, a timed ascent will allow you to challenge yourself and compete with people your age. A superb idea for climbing enthusiasts. But there’s no need to have a professional level. Whatever your time, the performance will already be magnificent in everyone’s eyes.
The work of the Cavigal Nice Cycling Club in organizing such a rally raid from June 23 to 29, 2013, with a departure from Nice, should be applauded. This event is open to all. From the young to seniors, including the more experienced, you will be delighted by a change of scenery just a few kilometers from the Promenade des Anglais. The famous Bay will be the arrival point of this sporting week.
Participants will be welcomed by the Deputy Mayor, Christian Estrosi, at the Tour de France village with a screening of the best moments. Prizes will be awarded at a closing ceremony and they will be VIP spectators of the time trial on Tuesday, July 2nd.
