Masters 1000 Monte Carlo: Sinner and Alcaraz meet in the final

After a week of intense competition, we now know the matchup for the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 final. For the first time in 2026, the two best players on the planet will face off for the title and the number 1 ranking. Before experiencing this extraordinary final, let’s look back at today’s semifinals.  

Jannik Sinner once again merciless against Zverev 

Once again, the confrontation between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev resulted in a one-sided match in favor of the Italian. 

Ultra dominant from the start of the match, Sinner quickly takes the lead and soars in the first set. With a triple break in his pocket, he wins 6-1. 

The stats perfectly illustrate this domination. Struggling greatly with his serve, Zverev only wins 35% of points behind his service. On his side, Sinner proves much more efficient, with 71% of points won on his serves and excellent return performance, where he wins 65% of points. The Italian is also more aggressive, with 9 winners compared to only 4 for his opponent.

The second set is much more competitive between the two players. Alexander Zverev holds on, but ultimately loses his serve at the most crucial moment, at 5-4 in favor of Jannik Sinner. Solid and always in control, the Italian is untouchable on his serves, winning an impressive 91% of points behind his service. He continues to dictate the rallies, with 12 winners in this set. Without much suspense, Jannik Sinner wins 6/1-6/4 and advances to the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 final.

Jannik Sinner now leads 9-4 in their head-to-head record. Alexander Zverev has not beaten the world number 2 since the 2023 US Open, and is on a streak of 8 consecutive losses, already 3 in 2026 (semifinals at Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte-Carlo).

End of the dream for Valentin Vacherot, stopped by Carlos Alcaraz

Valentin Vacherot will not repeat his feat from Shanghai last year. After his heroic run at home, the Monégasque is stopped short by a Carlos Alcaraz on a mission. 

The first set is fairly competitive between the two players. Unfortunately, Vacherot gets broken early in the third game and spends half an hour chasing the score, without success. Solid serving from both sides, few unforced errors, the first set came down to details, and Carlos Alcaraz’s 11 winners (twice as many as his opponent today) played a part. The world number 1 converts the only break point of the set to win 6/4.

Same scenario in the second set. Valentin Vacherot also loses his serve in the third game. But this time the Monégasque reacts very quickly to break back immediately. Once again, Carlos Alcaraz shows everyone who is in charge, and plays an extraordinary return game at 4 games apiece. The world number 1 will then serve for the match, and conclude his semifinal without hesitation, 6/4-6/4.

Today the task was too much for Valentin Vacherot, but the level of play he has shown this week is very promising for the rest of the season on European clay. On Monday, the Monégasque will be 17th in the world, he who was beyond the 200th place just six months ago.
