Valberg: USEP 2012, over 300 participants expected

Latest News

On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, starting at 9 a.m., the 21st edition of the General Council โ€“ USEP 2012 Grand Prix will take place in Valberg.

More than 300 participants from 8 primary schools

This alpine skiing challenge allows children from schools in the valleys and the coast, who have regularly followed an “alpine skiing” cycle during the season, to meet and participate in various thematic workshops (gymkhana, biathlonโ€ฆ) throughout the ski area. Valberg’s ski patrol will educate children on mountain safety and the various occupations related to ski slope management. The program for the day will also include a visit to the artificial snow factory and a quiz on sustainable development.

New for 2012:

Presentation of the handi ski 06 program by a sports service officer, along with a demonstration of the equipment used (tandem ski, kart ski, and dual ski). At the end of the activities, at 3:30 p.m., a traditional photograph will be taken, followed by the prize-giving ceremony, hot chocolate, and a raffle. The “P’tit Skieur” diploma will be awarded to the participants, and the most outstanding ones will receive the best school award.

The mountain ski-school program of the General Council

This plan allows primary and middle school children from the highlands, as well as students from the mountain high school in Valdeblore, to practice this discipline during school hours. Thus, in primary schools, 2,000 children in alpine skiing and 500 children in cross-country skiing are involved each year. For middle schools, itโ€™s 600 children in alpine skiing and 150 in cross-country skiing. Each of them is annually provided with a complete set of ski equipment, revised and adjusted by a specialized team from the General Council.
