In the early summer of 2012, the return of the tournament is always a special event for the people of Nice. For six days, the city of Nice will foster a close relationship with tennis, welcoming both enthusiasts and schoolchildren for a renowned spectacle.
After undeniable success last year, the Nice Open returns for a third edition from May 20 to 26, 2012, on the courts of the iconic Nice Lawn Tennis Club.
Once again this year, the organizers can boast an exceptional lineup.
Richard Gasquet and Nicolas Almagro, previous years’ winners, will be in attendance.
Noteworthy is the participation of Nice’s own Gilles Simon, as well as the young Australian Bernard Tomic, Russian Nikolay Davydenko, and not forgetting the French from the qualifiers: Nicolas Mahut, Edouard Roger-Vasselin, Benoit Paire, and Adrian Mannarino.
The attraction of the week will undoubtedly be the presence of the American giant John Isner, who reached his best ranking this year (9th in the ATP ranking) and will be a strong favorite.
The American surprises on clay. We remember he was close to an upset against Rafael Nadal at the French Open, since then he has single-handedly won the Davis Cup match (France vs USA) just a few weeks ago on the grounds of Monaco.
The Nice Open, this year also brings novelty: from Monday to Thursday, evening sessions are organized starting at 7:30 PM, creating a special atmosphere each time, to extend the enjoyment for tennis enthusiasts.
Through its Open, the city of Nice enjoys an international influence with matches broadcast in over 30 countries.
“It’s a global event that truly shines a spotlight on the city of Nice and the department,” said Pierre Albuixech, co-organizer of the tournament.
He added, “A fantastic tournament that remains the best preparation for Roland Garros for players who want to continue the competition.”
