A new eaglet is born: Namphalys Mendy

Having arrived from AS Monaco as a free agent, young Namphalys Mendy was presented yesterday to the press. A versatile and athletic midfielder, the former Monaco player was courted by many clubs, including Manchester United. It’s therefore a significant acquisition for OGC Nice and its president Jean Pierre Rivรจre.

mendy.jpg Relaxed and mindful of his communication, Namphalys Mendy, nicknamed “papy,” shares his first impressions: “It’s a relief to sign with Nice. I chose OGC Nice for the club’s ambitious project. The decision wasn’t easy, but the club’s approach appealed to me.” International hopeful and considered a future star, this choice surprised many. Contrary to the logic of football business, he emphasizes: “If I had chosen money, I would have opted for abroad.”

Claude Puel, the Nice coach, was also pivotal in this transfer: “The coach was direct with me, he had a candid conversation. The possibility of playing in the European Cup in this great stadium also influenced me. For the last matchday in Ajaccio, I was supporting Nice,” justifies the new Nice player.

Claude Puel himself relishes this decisive arrival for the club’s future: “He has the particularity of being a very generous player with a high work rate. It’s an important player profile for the team. In any case, he made a well-thought-out career choice that will allow him to progress smoothly. Last year, we were the youngest team in Ligue 1, and we are continuing in that direction. We have many quality player requests who want to come to Nice.” Alongside this presentation, president Rivรจre provided an update on Nice’s transfer market: “We want to keep as many players as possible. Didier Digard? He is under contract. Bautheac? He should extend his contract soon. Concerning Dario Cvitanich, he will be part of the squad for next year unless there is an overwhelming offer.”

The Nice president also regrets the communication mishaps made by the players. Eric Bautheac and Dario Cvitanich publicly expressed their doubts about a contract extension. Jean Pierre Rivรจre wants to clarify things: “For Dario, his agent estimated that he could earn double his salary at another club. He accuses us of not keeping our promises when there were none. I make it clear that I am available 24/7 if he wishes to call me.” On the arrivals side, Claude Puel remains cautious: “In central defense, we have the option to replace Renato Civelli, but we already have Genevois, who is a central defender by trade. As for Eric Abidal, I appreciate the player, but if he wants to come, he’ll have to make a big effort on his salary.” This statement sounds like a nod to the former Barcelona player who recently underwent cancer surgery and is also courted by AS Monaco.

It’s clear that the red and black club is not short of requests, whether on the departures or arrivals side. “These requests are the reward for a job well done,” concludes Jean Pierre Rivรจre proudly.
