The Alpes-Maritimes department is one of the most affected departments in France by Alzheimer’s disease, with nearly 17,000 patients.

It is in this context that the CALMAN* project was launched in Nice in partnership with the Memory Resource and Research Center (CMRR) of the Nice University Hospital.

The aim is to promote multidisciplinary actions aimed at both patients and their families to improve their quality of life, support the integration of these patients into society, and convey a non-stigmatizing image.

*The CALMAN project aims to facilitate the reception of patients in the city’s cultural establishments. Thus, in 2010, an initial experiment was successfully conducted in five municipal museums (Matisse Museum, MAMAC, Naรฏve Art Museum, Fine Arts Museum, and Massรฉna Museum).

In 2011, the operation was renewed and expanded. A program of 30 guided tours in 10 cultural establishments of the city was implemented.

Next Thursday, the city’s Heritage Center and the Health Pole are trying a new experiment and organizing a “Cours Saleya Flavor Workshop” for Alzheimer’s patients.

This innovative activity aims to stimulate the five senses of the patients through a heritage approach via gastronomy, singing, and tradition.

Concretely, it is a multi-sensory activity based on the five senses: a market visit will be organized, songs will be hummed… A stall of ingredients will be recreated so that the patients can make a pan-bagnat.

  • This year, to go further, various activities have been initiated:

Percussion workshops and special access to Kosma concerts in collaboration with the National Regional Conservatory,

Visits to the Maison du Carnaval during the creation of His Majesty the King, in collaboration with the Tourist and Congress Office,

The creation of carnival masks by EPHAD residents and their participation in neighborhood carnival parades.
