This competition will bring together the top level of university sailing worldwide: 15 nations, 24 teams, and 150 competitors. It will take place from September 3 to 8 and will be sponsored by Jean-Pierre Dick.
This event will be a grand celebration of sailing open to the public, a place of meeting and exchanges between students from universities around the world and all sailing enthusiasts.
Nice will have the pleasure of hosting the 1st Women’s World Match Racing event, a new Olympic discipline, an event not to be missed.
Competitors must have been born between January 1, 1984, and December 31, 1994.
The 2012 University World Championships mark the 25th edition of these competitions, which are held every two years in even years, alternating with the Summer and Winter Universiades organized in odd years.
This meeting is part of a wonderful program of 28 University World Championships offered by FISU for 2012; in 2010, 27 Championships gathered 4,431 student-athletes.
FISU actively supports these events and strives to accompany the creativity and aspirations of the students by regularly promoting innovative sporting disciplines. The goal is to preserve the spirit of the “Game” and foster the development of an open and curious mindset among university athletes.
