The list of French athletes selected for the London Paralympic Games was made public today by the French Paralympic and Sports Committee.

landier-3.jpg It consists of 164 athletes, including 10 able-bodied athletes (4 athletics guides, 3 tandem pilots in cycling, 2 sighted goalkeepers in blind football, and 1 coxswain in rowing) to aid the success of the selected 154 disabled athletes (103 men – 51 women).

Among them are four athletes from the Azur region: Florence Guedon-Doumesch (HB Le Cannet), who will be part of the women’s basketball team; two swimmers from Antibes, Elodie Lorandi and Frédéric Bussi; and tennis player Christine Schoenn-Auschling.

One notable absence compared to the predictions: cyclist Benjamin Lander (see box), who, despite demonstrating a perfect Olympic spirit, is missing!

In London, France will participate in 16 out of the 20 sports included in the Paralympic Games program (August 29 – September 9), including three team sports. Three new categories will be opened to intellectually impaired athletes: athletics, table tennis, and swimming.

Goal: Top 10

The French delegation aims for 9th place in the national rankings. To reach this goal, the French athletes hope to win 16 gold medals.
