The Ray District enters the municipal election campaign

Latest News

With the new Allianz Riviera stadium, the Stade du Ray is now free of any activity. It is a 7-hectare strategic site, perhaps the most important and one of the rarest in the city, where construction has played a priority role in the city’s layout and the local economic system, making it a well-densified city from the perspective of “concretization”.

Naturally, much attention is paid to the decisions that will be made in this regard. Let us recall that the mayor of Nice had expressed support for maintaining the Tennis Club Mรฉditerranรฉe at its current site, ensuring that the volume of any potential construction would be equal to that of the Stade du Ray.

To this end, unofficially, multidisciplinary working groups have been working on this issue, and a number of ideas have been considered and shared.

Nothing official, it is reiterated, but some guidelines can already indicate preferred options: Elimination of the Stade du Ray without any retention of a playing area, which would nonetheless be valuable for the needs of nearby sports activities; “some” medium-sized buildings and additional gardens.

Finally, a classic operation that is far from the eco-district label that one would like to attribute to it and which is now generously distributed. With the deliberation of the last City Council, the process of public consultation will be implemented, allowing all citizens to express themselves, even if the voted regulation leaves ample possibilities to organize a minimal consultation.

We will see if the residents of the neighborhood, whether directly or indirectly concerned, will know how to act so that their right-holder interest is taken into account or if they will have to settle for a project already wrapped up and signed by developers always attentive not to miss good opportunities.

Of course, the choice will be between what the mayor has called a “self-financed” operation by these real estate developers or an investment at the expense of the city’s finances. But as Christian Estrosi affirms, its finances are healthy and the debt capacity is far from the fateful and prohibitive threshold.

So, to remain on the financial aspect, it would be hardly credible to have spent 40 million euros on the very good initiative of the green flow (future Promenade du Paillon inaugurated on the upcoming Friday 26) and be stingy when it comes to reaching into the wallet for one of the most Niรงois neighborhoods in the city.

Especially if it is justified in the name of the general interest!

Of course!.. Our English friends would say!
