Christian Razeau, President of the association “Quartiers de Nice” and Member of the “Animal Collective of 06”: “It seems incredible that we have been forced to protest for more than 10 years to obtain 50 meters of the Nice beach, which has more than 7000 meters, so that the population and tourists can swim with their pets in normal health and safety conditions, without ‘their lives being put in danger’.
This collective is asking the Prefecture for the right to demonstrate on Sundays, August 5 and 19, 2012, with dogs and families (including children and elderly people) on the Lenval beach in Nice, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Signs and banners will be placed on the shore and on the railing of the Promenade des Anglais to denounce the mistreatment and suffering of animals, the need to invent an Animal Law, the need to reduce our meat consumption, and the need to abolish religious ritual slaughters.
According to Christian Razeau, the “site” of Carras-Lanterne, allocated by the previous Mayor, Mr. Jacques Peyrat, by the municipal decree 2010-02049, proves to be completely unsuitable, probably unsanitary, dangerous, unsupervised, damaging to the reputation of the Cรดte d’Azur and with a sign indicating “Swimming at your own risk.” This “site” was allocated contrary to the Departmental Health Regulations and to this same municipal decree in its article 19, since it is located at the outlet of a valley, at the exit of a port, without the possibility of retreat if a large wave arrives and surrounded on both sides by “breakwaters and other marine defense works and unstabilized rockfill.”
The goal of this initiative? The transfer of the swimming authorization from the “site” of Carras-Lanterne to the “beach” of Lenval, which requires a vote from the Municipal Council that is far from certain.
