On Saturday, October 27th, from 11 am to 1 pm, Franck Viano, the creator and former editor-in-chief of Nice Premium, will be at his stronghold, the Restaurant Lu Fran Calin, to sign copies of his first novel “My Friend Evil” against a backdrop of Niรงoise cuisine. It’s an opportunity to meet both the author and the chef!
“I am very happy to hold this signing session at my best friend and Chef Daniel’s place, especially since a scene from the novel takes place in the old Fran Calin on Colonna d’Istria street. Furthermore, sharing my passion for cooking in this institution with him is also very important to me. And when I tell you that I was born in the building that houses the new Fran Calin, it will all come full circle!” Indeed, while the novel’s signing will be the highlight of the morning, there will also be talk of cooking and tastings of pissaladiรจre, socca, and other sweet pan bagnats.
“My Friend Evil” takes place largely in Old Nice, where Franck originates, and many locations in this neighborhood served as a setting for the novel. “I was born and raised in the neighborhood and wanted to share these places that can still be found today. Fran Calin is one of them, as well as the Negresco, which houses the protagonists, and the castle hill, a playground and discovery zone for the ‘pitchouns’ of the old town.”
Writing, novels… Subjects will certainly not be lacking on the terrace of the Nice restaurant, notably the theme of Franck’s next work, which is expected to be released in 2013, blending cuisine and crime thriller deftly. “I am currently finalizing my new novel which also takes place in Nice within the culinary world, with a backdrop of a serial killer who eliminates all the chefs who do not respect Niรงoise cuisine. Since I cannot do it myself, I took certain pleasure in having my character do it.”
