The law on voluntary civic service was passed on March 10, 2010, replacing the voluntary civil service created in 2006. Civic service involves a mission of general interest that aims to promote social mixing, intergenerational relationships, gender equality, and youth integration; it includes mentoring: individualized and regular supervision of a young person; and civic and citizenship training. It is intended for young people aged 16 to 25 for a period of 6 to 12 months, for those who hold French nationality or have been residing in France for more than a year.
Under the impetus of Dominique Estrosi-Sassone, Deputy in charge of City Policy and Social Cohesion, Nice Cรดte d’Azur has been engaged since the end of 2009 with the association Unis-Citรฉs to experiment with the implementation of civic service in the area, thus anticipating the national development of this system which promotes social diversity.
For the third consecutive year, the CCAS (Communal Center for Social Action) welcomes 12 young people for social or intergenerational solidarity actions.
Coming from all neighborhoods, with different levels of education and diverse cultural backgrounds, these volunteers will have nine-month missions of general interest in the following themes: gerontology by participating in animation workshops, severe poverty and isolation by visiting seniors at home, ethics and proper behavior towards the most vulnerable, focusing on a female audience within operations related to people in severe poverty, and ensuring the promotion and development of projects in the Ariane neighborhood.
