The 17th PromโClassic is getting ready. The start will be given this Sunday, January 10th, from 10 am on the Promenade des Anglais, preceded by the childrenโs race โthe Mini Promโโ (a 2016 novelty) starting at 8:45 am.
As every year, all eyes will be on the frontrunners. Among the male competitors, the Frenchman Hassan CHAHDI, confirmed at the last minute and credited with a personal record of 29โ07โโ thanks to his second place at the PromโClassic in 2015, stands out on paper as the great favorite this Sunday.
Having accumulated the titles of Champion in 2015 over 10 km, cross-country, and 3000 m indoor, CHAHDI is expected to confidently win this 17th edition.
Besides Hassan CHAHDI, four athletes have times below the current record of the PromโClassic, (Saรฏd TBIBI has held the record since 2007 with 28โ38โโ) and should therefore be serious competitors for him: EL HIMER, who finished in 4th place in the 2014 PromโClassic standings, THEURI and CHEBET (with personal bests of 28โ18โโ and 28โ30โโ respectively), and Yassine MANDOUR, who placed 3rd in the 2014 European Cup at the 10,000 m with 28โ22โโ.
In the women’s category, with the surprising withdrawal of Sophie DUARTE, absent from the race this year due to winter viruses, all hopes are allowed for the contenders in the running. Fanny PRUVOST, from Audomar, a regular of the PromโClassic, who won the 10 km of Gravelines in 2015, allowing her to set a new personal record of 33โ44โโ, should take advantage of the absence of the eventโs record holder to seize the podium.
Close behind her, the Frenchwomen Martha KOMU credited with a time of 33โ02โโ and Angรฉlina GOURS with a record time of 33โ59, will be battling hard to claim victory.
Join us this Sunday at the finish line to discover the podium!
