Find out the weekend results of clubs and athletes from Nice. While Mathieu Faivre shined in skiing, the OGC Nice Handball women were eliminated from the Coupe de France, and Cavigal Basket faced their second defeat of the season.
Skiing โ Giant Slalom: Impressive Ninth Place for Faivre
The skier from Isola 2000, Mathieu Faivre, delivered his best performance of the season on Saturday by securing 9th place in the Giant Slalom at Adelboden, Switzerland. Tenth after the first run, the Nice native took advantage of the very mild weather conditions in the early afternoon and a poor course to move up one position. Faivre finished less than five-tenths of a second away from the podium in a giant slalom race won by Marcel Hirscher (AUT) ahead of Frenchman Alexis Pinturault. The next event for the skier from Nice is the World Championships in Beaver Creek (USA) on February 13th.
Basketball โ Womenโs League 2: Cavigal Falls in Vendรฉe and Loses the Lead
The NissโAngels fell on the court of Roche Vendรฉe BC 69-55 for the last match of the first half of the season. Not successful in their shooting (only 35% compared to 49% for Roche Vendรฉe), Cavigal Basket was chasing the score throughout the game except for a few minutes in the third quarter. The Nice team was particularly penalized by 19 turnovers, barely compensated by assists (4). Shenita Landry was the top scorer for Cavigal with 19 points and 6 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. At the end of this 13th day, the NissโAngels lose the top spot in Womenโs League 2 and are closely followed by Dunkerque, Aix, and Limoges.
Handball โ Womenโs Coupe de France: Already Over for OGC Nice
The adventure in the Coupe de France ends for OGC Nice Handball as soon as the Division 1 clubs enter the competition (round of 16). Unfortunate with the draw, the Nice team faced the fate of the defending champion and current leader of the French Championship, Fleury Loiret, who won 27-20 (15-9 at halftime). Without their top scorer, Alexandre Lacrabรจre, Nice relied on Bijana Bandelier, who scored 6 goals. Up next is another challenging away game this Wednesday against Metz, the reigning champion of France, in the Womenโs League.
