A new community space is opening in Nice. The first floor of the former Peugeot garage in the St-Roch district is complete. It aims to accommodate up to 30 associations. By March 2012, the entire space will be renovated with sports and performance halls.

The St-Roch community space was inaugurated this Monday. Acquired in 2009 for 7 million euros, the former Peugeot garage totals 6,880m2. The renovation amounts to 8.1 million euros. Funded by the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes and the City of Nice. The work should be completed by March 2012.
First section in operation
The 1,250 m2 on the floor currently allow 21 associations to be hosted but can contain 30. This space replaces the premises located on the first floor of the old bus station. A parking lot with 75 spaces was already put into service in December 2010, managed by Semiacs. This space also meets the needs of the Jean Giono college, which did not have any sports and activities halls.
Neighborhood Renewal
The opening of this community space aligns with the renewal of the St-Roch district, which now has a new living area near the renovated market square. The city’s mayor, Christian Estrosi, as well as the president of the General Council, Eric Ciotti, welcomed the success of this project, which is part of the neighborhood renovation.
