The law on voluntary civic service was passed on March 10, 2010, replacing the voluntary civil service created in 2006.
Nice Cรดte d’Azur has been committed since the end of 2009 to the association Unis-Citรฉs to experiment with the implementation of civic service in the region, thus anticipating the national development of this program.
To promote social diversity through this program, the CCAS of Nice and Unis-Citรฉs have focused on recruiting young people aged 16 to 25 from all neighborhoods, with different educational levels and diverse cultural backgrounds.
Civic service is aimed at young people aged 16 to 25 for a period of 6 to 12 months, who are French nationals or have been residing in France for more than a year.
Civic service involves:
๏ง A mission of general interest promoting social, intergenerational, gender, and youth diversity;
๏ง Mentorship: individualized and regular support for a young person;
๏ง Civic and citizenship training.
Volunteers receive a monthly allowance of โฌ440, supplemented by the host organization’s contribution to transportation and meal expenses.
This Wednesday, 12 young volunteers will be welcomed at the CCAS where they will start their general interest work three days a week, for nine months, in the following areas:
โข Gerontology,
โข Extreme poverty,
โข Ethics and appropriate behavior towards the most vulnerable populations,
โข Project dynamics.
