On April 21st, the Deputy Mayor of Nice and the President of the General Council inaugurated within this Residential Facility for Dependent Elderly People (EHPAD) a 4,000 m2 extension dedicated to accommodation and recreational activities, subsidized to the tune of 1.1 million euros by the General Council.
It was also an opportunity to lay the first stone of a “Renoir” therapeutic garden intended for all residents and especially for those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
This therapeutic garden, featuring a fountain, aims to stimulate the senses and emotions of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and to reestablish the connection between the patients and the outside world, thus becoming a means of exchange and sharing.
Earth, water, wind, and fire
The concept of the therapeutic garden by the Pauliani Foundation is to bring together in one space everything that stimulates the cognitive mechanisms of patients through the four elements: earth, water, wind, and fire through the warmth of the sun.
Indeed, studies on gardens made available to patients in healthcare and residential facilities designed as a safe wandering area show various benefits for patients with Alzheimer’s disease, such as the reduction of behavioral issues, aggression, and agitation.
The fountain was crafted by a stonecutter from Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The city of Nice is contributing to this acquisition with an amount of 1,500 โฌ.
