The 4th Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 20, 2011, between Nice and Cannes on a fully coastal route. The event will host nearly 11,000 marathon runners who will complete the 42.195 km race individually or in relay. The event is also open to disabled athletes regardless of their disability.
The course, approved by the FFA as part of the French Marathon Championships, presents risks at certain points of the route, notably a descent that can pose a genuine hazard for wheelchair racers.
Christian Estrosi and Eric Ciotti, along with the French Association for the Paralyzed, expressed their surprise and incomprehension, and naturally asked us to welcome them while taking all necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
This is why, in response to this situation, the organization will implement a specific safety measure at the dangerous spots by stopping wheelchair racers at Antibes in the descent of Edec Roc. They will be assisted by members of the organization to ensure their safety as well as that of the runners around them, and they will resume once the danger has passed.
Azur Sport Organization has always made it a point of honor to support numerous actions in favor of disability each year in various forms, in order to highlight the initiatives of associations working for inclusive and non-elitist sports.
As an example this Sunday, a joรซlette accompanied by agents from the Alpes-Maritimes General Council and the “Osons la diffรฉrence” association will be entered in the event. The ARSEP Foundation (Aid for Multiple Sclerosis Research) will also have participants with this disease taking part.
