A 36-year-old woman was arrested and taken into custody on Monday, November 2 after physically assaulting the principal and a teacher at the Clément-Roassal kindergarten school in Nice. Mayor Éric Ciotti went to the scene to offer his support to the two teachers, who were shocked by the incident.
An assault took place on Monday, November 2 at the Clément-Roassal kindergarten school, located near the Libération district of Nice. A 36-year-old mother is suspected of striking the school’s principal as well as a teacher. Arrested at her home by law enforcement, with the assistance of municipal police, the woman was taken into custody.
The mayor of Nice, Éric Ciotti, went to the school after the incident. On site, the mayor condemned an assault “of unprecedented violence and particularly serious.” In a message posted on social network X, the mayor had also offered his support to the two members of the educational staff.
The two teachers “naturally very shocked”
During his visit to the Clément-Roassal school, Éric Ciotti provided some details on the consequences of the assault. “The principal and the teacher were clearly assaulted as well and received blows,” he stated. The two victims “are naturally very shocked,” the mayor also indicated. The mayor did, however, specify that “no student witnessed these scenes.”
According to the Minister of National Education, Édouard Geffray, the suspect was arrested at her home. In response to this assault, he condemned acts that are “intolerable.” “It occurs in a context of the normalization of violence in our society, which we must collectively reject: attacking two women in the exercise of their duties is attacking the School as a whole.”
The prosecutor of the Republic in Nice, Damien Martinelli, is also expected to provide further details on the circumstances of this assault in the coming hours.
