“Socialists Against Austerity: Support for Socialist MPs ‘for another policy’” is the title of a petition circulating among those socialist activists and sympathizers who wish not to vote for the Responsibility Pact proposed by the government.

On the eve of a vote in the Assembly on the stability program, the national board of the Socialist Party adopted a resolution supporting the measure with 31 votes in favor, 15 “against” votes, and one “abstention”, announced the party spokesperson, Olivier Faure, on Monday.
While in a letter to PS MPs, Manuel Valls requested everyone’s vote, “The 50 billion euros savings plan is essential”, the national board of the party appears divided.
Among those who voted against are members of the left wing “Now the Left”, a portion of Benoรฎt Hamon’s supporters, and Gerard Filoche’s close allies. According to the PS, the only deputy who voted against was Pascal Cherki (Paris).
The resolution sets the party’s position, listing all the points of the stability program, including the adjustments announced this Monday by Manuel Valls. Jean-Christophe Cambadรฉlis is scheduled to present it on Tuesday before the group of socialist deputies at the Assembly.
