Regional train service will be completely interrupted between Nice and Ventimiglia on Tuesday, November 10 and Wednesday, November 11, 2026, due to railway network modernization work. The Nice-Breil-sur-Roya line will also be affected, with an extended interruption from November 9 to 12. Substitute buses are planned for certain routes.
Users of railway lines between Nice, Monaco, Menton and Ventimiglia will need to adjust their travel plans in November. SNCF Réseau is planning a total interruption of service between Nice and Ventimiglia from Tuesday, November 10 at 1:30 AM to Wednesday, November 11 around 5:30 PM. This 40-hour shutdown will allow several renovation operations to be carried out on the network.
Between Nice-Ville and Nice-Saint-Roch stations, certain catenary components will be replaced. At Nice-Saint-Roch and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, old switches will be removed and replaced with regular track. These interventions are intended to improve the reliability of the line and eventually allow increased service frequency.
Service between Nice and Breil-sur-Roya will be interrupted for a longer period, from Monday, November 9 to Thursday, November 12 at 5:30 PM. SNCF Réseau is planning, in particular, the replacement of catenary interruption devices in the Nice-Saint-Roch area. A bus substitution service will be put in place, with limited capacity.
Italian train service will remain normal between Breil and Tende during the work. However, travelers are advised to check traffic conditions before departure, particularly on the TER Zou! website for the South region.
Alternative solutions for travelers
The traffic interruption will also affect cross-border travel between France and Monaco. As Wednesday, November 11 is a public holiday in France but not in the Principality, cross-border workers could be particularly affected by these disruptions.
In a statement, the Principality strongly recommends, “where possible,” adjusting work organization and travel plans. Among the suggested solutions are “the use of telework, postponement of travel, adjustment of time off or work hours for affected employees, use of carpooling and public urban transport.”
Subscribers will be able to use substitute buses at no extra cost, upon presentation of their subscription and the WORKS PASS FOR SUBSCRIBERS ZOU!, available on the TER Zou! website. Since capacity is limited, affected travelers are advised to plan ahead.
These two days of interruption are part of a broader modernization program for the Nice-Ventimiglia line. Work is already modifying traffic schedules until November 8. SNCF Réseau also warns that other periodic interruptions will be necessary over the coming years to improve network reliability and increase train frequency.
