What is the Guinness World Records?

The Guinness Book of Records was first published in 1955 at the initiative of the Englishmen Norris and Ross McWhirter under the name The Guinness Book of Records, who owned a documentation agency in London, following an idea by Hugh Beaver of the Irish brewery Guinness. In 1999, it became The Guinness World Records. During a hunting party, Sir Hugh Beaver saw a bird pass by and was impressed by its speed. That evening in a pub with his friends, they debated for a while about the bird Sir Hugh Beaver had seen and which was the fastest bird in the world. Following this debate, they decided to catalog all the fastest, heaviest animals, etc.

In France, in 1962, they released the first book of records under the name Le Livre des Extrรชmes. Thirteen years later in 1975, they released the 2nd book called Le Livre des Records, and since then it has been published annually. In 1980, the book changed its name to Le Livre Guinness des Records. In 1999, the book is now called Guinness World Records, in 2007 Le Mondial des Records, and since 2010, it has reverted to Guinness World Records.
