Until September 13, with the exhibition “Recycle your street,” the City of Biot offers, thanks to the Nice-based collective Los Gringos, an exhibition of a new kind!
At a time when street art is in full swing, and this worldwide, it is in Biot, in the heart of the village, far from the streets of Brooklyn, that this urban art makes its entrance.
Street artists with different universes have taken over the space and urban furniture to imbue them with current, poetic, engaged, and above all, colorful messages… In their hands, recycled materials, paper, cardboard, jute, or wire transform to offer a new perspective on the street, that of an open-air museum.
Ten artists, many of whom are from the Nice-based collective Los Gringos, have been gathered by the exhibition curator Anthony Alberti, alias Mr. OneTeas, to create these works spread throughout the city, exclusively from reclaimed materials.
Some works are presented in municipal exhibition halls, the former Tourist Office, rue St-Sébastien, but many have been specially created to be placed on a facade (the town hall, for example, or at Brothier).
Visitors will therefore have to wander in search of the works, look up and be surprised by the dialogue between the work and the street, the cobblestones, the surrounding furniture.
“The collective Los Gringos brings together artists who have all created a universe of their own, stemming from the street art and graffiti movement. Their union in 2011 is primarily due to an initial friendship and complicity, which over time has given the collective great adaptability and improvisation skills,” explains Anthony Alberti, alias Mr. OneTeas, adding that “regardless of the medium, place, and technique, every performance is always a new challenge for them.”
