Discovering the “beautiful gardens of the Alpes-Maritimes” is also about delving into the history of our department, which in the second half of the 19th century attracted the great bourgeoisie and aristocracy from all over Europe: hotels, palaces, and villas bear witness to this prestigious past!
As part of the France-Italy 2014-2020 ALCOTRA cross-border cooperation program, and in continuation of the cooperation efforts initiated over many years, the launch of the JARDIVAL project for the promotion of the gardens of the French-Italian Riviera is a real asset for promoting sustainable, diverse, and off-season tourism.
Its goal is to enhance the attractiveness of the cross-border area by increasing the visibility and attendance of the exceptional gardens and sites of the Cรดte d’Azur and the Italian Riviera.
The project, led by the Department of Alpes-Maritimes, brings together five towns that own and manage remarkable gardens: Menton, Cannes, Grasse, San Remo, and Costarainera, along with the Province of Imperia, as well as two tourism development and promotion agencies: the CRT Cรดte d’Azur and the regional promotion agency “In Liguria.”
JARDIVAL will significantly enhance a unique cross-border heritage made up of remarkable gardens that are an environmental, cultural, and historical treasure of the highest order. Improvements will be made to better accommodate visitors, locals, and tourists. Coordinated promotion and tourism marketing actions for the gardens will also be deployed to attract many external visitors, including the organization of a major event in spring 2017, a Festival of Gardens.
A project scheduled for completion in spring 2017, with the primary ambition of showcasing one of the most dazzling aspects of the Cรดte d’Azur and the natural wonders of the French-Italian Riviera.
