Bastille Day: A musical fireworks show with the Philharmonic Orchestra

Passionate music lovers, get ready: on the occasion of the national holiday on July 14th, the Nice Opera Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Philippe Auguin, will pull out all the stops and perform Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique.

The Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14 (original title: Episode in the Life of an Artist, Symphonie fantastique in five parts) is a work by Hector Berlioz, dedicated to Nicholas I of Russia and premiered on December 5, 1830, at the Paris Conservatory, conducted by François-Antoine Habeneck, six years after Beethoven’s ninth symphony.

Consisting of five descriptive scenes, this work, closer to a symphonic poem than a symphony, belongs to a genre called program music.

With its innovative writing, choice of instruments, originality of their use, invention of their combinations, and bold effects (such as the range of dynamics or spatialization), the Symphonie fantastique, composed just six years after Beethoven’s 9th symphony, made the young Berlioz (he was only twenty-seven) one of the rare masters of orchestration in classical music.

To attend, you must collect the invitations (a maximum of 2 invitations per person) on site. An invitation is required for each person, including children.

1,000 seats and 2,500 standing places will be available.
