In Angers, the athletes from Nice Cรดte d’Azur Athletics clinched two gold medals and two bronze ones during the elite French championships this weekend.
Mathilde Andraud and Frรฉdรฉric Dagรฉe were crowned French champions in javelin and shot put, while Dean-Nick Allen and Rouguy Diallo finished third in discus and triple jump.
Out of the five Nice Cรดte d’Azur Athletics athletes qualified for the “elite,” all made it to the finals, four won a medal, and two claimed the national title!
The success of the athletes from Nice began on the first day of the competition, Friday, with Mathilde Andraud’s victory in the javelin throw. With a best throw of 54.05 m, the new French record holder claimed her fifth consecutive senior title. For her, the next events are the European championships (July 6-10) and the Olympics (August 12-21).
A few hours after Mathilde, Dean-Nick Allen created a surprise in the discus throw by crossing the 55-meter line (55.08 m) for the first time. Third in the finals, he won his first national medal in the senior category.
On Saturday, shot putter Frรฉdรฉric Dagรฉe was inspired by the excellent results of the previous day to win his first national senior title. With a throw of 19.21 m, the athlete from Nice made an almost miraculous comeback after spending a week in bed in early June due to a back injury. He will throw again on Tuesday in Romans to try to achieve the Olympic qualifying standard (20.50 m).
In pole vault, Isabelle Leroy then secured a commendable sixth place with a jump of 4.20 m in her first participation in the outdoor French elite championships.
Finally, on Sunday, Rouguy Diallo brought Nice Cรดte d’Azur Athletics its fourth medal of the weekend with third place in the triple jump (13.88 m).
Next step: the European championships in 10 days.
