Unemployment almost stable in July: encouraging sign in the Alpes-Maritimes

Latest News

According to the data released on Monday, July 27, 2015, an additional 1,300 people joined this category last month. The number of job seekers in category A (without activity) stands at 3,553,500 in mainland France at the end of June 2015. It has decreased by 0.3% in the Alpes-Maritimes compared to May.

Over the past 12 months, the number of these same job seekers has increased by 6.1% in the Alpes-Maritimes, the worst department in PACA, well above the regional average (+4.9%) and national average (+4.7%).

An increase considered low enough for the number of unemployed to be described as โ€œalmost stableโ€ by the Ministry of Labor, which sees this slight increase as an โ€œencouraging signโ€: โ€œSince January 1, 2015, its slowdown is an encouraging sign: +8,800 per month on average, which is half of what it was in the second half of 2014.โ€

Unemployment continues to decline among young people: For those under 25, the number of category A job seekers decreased by 1.1% (-6,200 people) in June.

The government sees these positive figures as the result โ€œof the measures we have implemented to support young people in difficulty towards employment (youth jobs, youth guarantee).โ€
