Regional elections: Sophie Canard from EELV supports rent control in PACA

Latest News

Sophie Camard, the lead candidate for EELV in the regional elections in Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur, is among the signatories of an op-ed published this Sunday in JDD, calling for the extension of the rent control implementation in the 28 urban areas where the housing market is the most strained. And not just in Paris, where the measure will take effect on August 1st.

Rent Control: One More Effort!

“Starting August 1st, Parisian tenants will finally benefit from a long-awaited measure: rent control. It has taken nearly a year and a half for this major social advancement, voted for in March 2014 within the framework of the Alur law introduced by Cรฉcile Duflot, to be applied in the capital.

However, this initial step of rent control in Paris remains largely insufficient, as this measure was meant to apply, according to the spirit of the Duflot law, in 28 urban areas where the housing market is the most strained.

Indeed, rent control is an essential step in bursting the real estate bubble that has led to rents in major cities doubling in ten years without any justification other than a shortage of supply.

Let’s experiment with Paris, certainly, but let’s not make it an exception, rather a trial run for housing to become de facto a fundamental right throughout France.”
