Wrestling: Falling to Rise Again

Latest News

After a defeat in her opening match against the Belarusian Vasilisa Marzaliuk, multiple-time world and European medalist, Cynthia Vescan was definitively eliminated from the Olympic tournament. Her very experienced opponent having been defeated in the final, the French wrestler was not given a repechage opportunity.

Despite a very balanced match in the first period, the Belarusian showed strong physical intensity. According to Michel Lafon, the national technical director, “Cynthia was completely in her match. While she was taking advantage of a very favorable attacking phase due to a passivity call on her opponent, she was caught off guard and overtaken by Marzaliuk.”

This early setback is a great disappointment for the athlete who had trained hard and was really hoping to return from Brazil with a medal.

But at only 24 years old, Cynthia must recover from this defeat and learn from this Olympic adventure. Many great years are still ahead of her.
