Senatorial: Olivier Bettati, as a troublemaker of the right, believes in his chances

After the surprise of spring, will there be one in the fall? This is the question being asked by observers of local political life regarding the candidacy of Olivier Bettati, the former municipal, metropolitan, and general councilor, who, after distancing himself from his lifelong party, the UMP (formerly RPR), has decided to continue his political career without a label.

Elected with two other companions to the Municipal Council during the popular consultation last March, he has decided to take on the challenge again during the senatorial elections on September 28.

He will do so at the head of an “independent” formation, with running mates representing the rural communes of the middle country, “a world neglected by the policy of metropolitanization and which, as a result, risks having its momentum and potentialities halted”- said Olivier Bettati in the presence of his running mates* during the press briefing presenting the Mer et Montagne list.

At 45 years old, with 25 years of experience as a field official, Olivier Bettati wants to embody a new generation of politicians who have left ideologies behind and are committed to realizing a project that addresses people’s needs.

“I have left behind the expression of power in politics. The UMP list represents a snapshot of the balances in view of the upcoming internal electoral deadlines (UMP President, right-wing primary in 2016) and institutional (presidential in 2017) of this party that was mine. Clan struggles do not interest me and interest people even less. I want to be the candidate of citizens who ask questions and want answers, rejecting grand speeches without content.”

The electoral campaign must be conducted in a particular way: there will be no universal suffrage, but it will be necessary to convince the grand electors (numbering 2031).

In principle, the games are already partially set: if we can assume that municipal elected officials will vote for the candidate of their party, many situations can evolve in the secrecy of the voting booth.

The propaganda campaign must be targeted in this sense, in the personal or interpersonal relationship. In this regard, Olivier Bettati enjoys an excellent disposition to reach out to people.

It’s probably for this reason that his smile was not a mere formality but prefigured the joy of a surprise: Changing the game once again and tanti saluti (goodbye).

A surprise, you say?
