This weekend, the Senior World Rowing Championships took place in Aiguebelette, Savoie. Representing the Club Nautique de Nice for France were Elodie Ravera-Scaramozzino and Gaël Chocheyras.
Gaël Chocheyras, with his crew in the men’s lightweight coxless eight (under 70 kg), achieved the title of vice world champion, finishing behind the German team.
At the end of a thrilling race where the gap at the finish was marked by hundredths of a second, the French team managed to secure this superb medal by expertly controlling their opponents.
The performance is all the more remarkable given that Gaël, at 19, was one of the youngest senior men at these world championships. He therefore has his whole future ahead of him!
Elodie Ravera-Scaramozzino was competing in the women’s double sculls alongside her teammate Hélène Lefebvre (Société Nautique de l’Encouragement). She achieved the tremendous feat of qualifying her boat for the Rio 2016 Olympics: French female rowing hadn’t qualified a team for the Olympics in almost 8 years!
This duo, which has been rowing together for only a few months, has significant potential for improvement that should allow them to reach an Olympic final in 1 year.
Elodie, who is just 19 years old, has many years ahead of her to continue to shine!
