Last night, a silent march in tribute to Hervé Gourdel took place in Saint-Martin-de-Vésubie, attended by numerous authorities and villagers where the victim of this heinous murder was well known and appreciated.

A new march will be organized at the family’s request this Saturday at 11 a.m. It will start from Quai Lunel and end at the Théâtre de Verdure.

The statement issued by the family does not allow for further comments.

“We thank all the French citizens for the immense support that has been extended to us. We know that in many cities across France, gatherings will be held.

We, the family and friends of Hervé, want these events to be conducted with dignity and restraint. Our thoughts and words will be about Hervé, we will remember the man he was, his kindness and his passion for the mountains, and the men and women who live there.

We will not tolerate hateful, provocative, or political words, from any side. We do not wish for speeches from elected officials. We will all be ordinary citizens united in grief, intent on paying tribute to Hervé, and above all, respectful of the values of tolerance that he embodied so generously.”
