The 5th edition of the Science Weekend 2014 in Sophia Antipolis, organized as part of the Science Festival, will take place on Saturday, October 11, and Sunday, October 12, at the Valbonne International Center, in the “Agora” space and the Bouillides Park.
This event will extend the activities aimed at students organized throughout the beginning of the week at the CIV.
The Village will be inaugurated by the authorities on Saturday 11 at 5 PM.
This event involves most of the scientific players from the Sophia Antipolis metropolis and the department, offering the public of all ages festive days centered around science through about twenty stands, workshops, activities, screenings, laboratory visits on topics as varied as Planetary and Universe Sciences, Life and Health Sciences, Digital, Electronics and Robotics Sciences, or Zetetic (or how to scientifically explain phenomena that seem paranormal or magical).
A place is also reserved for the presentation of science careers and the role of women in these careers. A shuttle is available for the public to visit the CSTB laboratories (reservation strongly recommended).
A show “TARA Expeditions* and Chronicles of Plankton” is offered at the end of the day on Saturday at 6 PM in the cinema room of the Agora. Christian SARDET, Research Director at the Oceanographic Observatory of Villefranche-sur-Mer and co-founder of Tara Oceans, will present and comment on the TARA* expeditions through magnificent images and films of the expeditions, from his book “Plankton – at the origins of life” and videos of the “Chronicles of Plankton.”

The public will be accompanied through the village by “Pilot Fish,” students from the CIV boarding school, to guide them throughout their visit: information on stands, schedules of activities, scientific game operation, response entries, advice…
