This Monday in Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat, the Academy of Fine Arts and the Heritage Foundation will sign an agreement for the restoration of the Louis XVI grand salon furniture in the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.
This initiative follows a restoration policy carried out with major patrons and with the support of the Friends of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild Association for the maintenance of this heritage.
The estimated budget is 300,000 euros.
The villa is currently furnished with pieces from Béatrice Ephrussi’s Parisian townhouse on Avenue Foch, from two villas in Monte Carlo, and the remaining pieces originally furnishing the Saint Jean Cap Ferrat villa, forming the properties bequeathed to the Academy of Fine Arts in 1934.
The Louis XVI Grand Salon, a masterpiece of the Villa Ephrussi
The size of the Louis XVI salon and the magnificent panoramic view of the Bay of Beaulieu from its rotunda make it a major room in the villa.
A first restoration campaign from 2008 to 2010, entrusted to the Christian Le Guellec Workshops, took place for the woodwork, painted panels, and doors, along with the restoration of the ceiling painting “The Chariot of Love Drawn by Doves” by the 18th-century Venetian painter Tiepolo, entrusted to Atelier Arcanes-Cinzia Pasquali.
This is the first time a major restoration campaign has been undertaken for the restoration of the furniture, bronzes, sculptures, and carpets in this exceptional room. The restoration should allow for the exhibition of major works currently in storage.
