“I will travel to the regions of France to meet with you and discuss the future of our country,” said Nicolas Sarkozy after announcing his candidacy for the presidency of the UMP, but more importantly, for the one that has motivated him (and in a certain way, been itching him) since May 6, 2012: the 2017 presidential election.

This evening, numerous supporters from Nice and the Cรดte d’Azur are expected to gather at the Palais Acropolis for a campaign rally. For the record, the Alpes-Maritimes had almost unanimously supported him (64% of the votes) when he was defeated by Franรงois Hollande.

The new communication advisors want to present a candidate who is gentle and calm; it even appears that the plan is for him to be seated like a fakir, despite his tendency to be dynamic and resilient.

There is no doubt that Nicolas Sarkozy is a formidable political figure, full of confidence and energy. His return to politics is merely an acknowledgment of a factual situation because, in truth, he never really left, instead positioning himself in a strategic retreat.

The UMP entourage will be present. Even Eric Ciotti, considered one of Franรงois Fillon’s right-hand men and declared adversary of the former President for the right and center primaries in 2016, has sided with him for… the presidency of the UMP, justifying it by the fact that Franรงois Fillon is not a candidate.

However, as everyone knows, including Eric Ciotti, one election can be a prelude to another, and it is reasonable to wonder if the repositioning process has not already begun…
