In order to support the athletes from the department who may be selected for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Alpes-Maritimes Department is launching Team06, on the road to Rio.
This Friday, Eric Ciotti officially presented the athletes who make up TEAM 06 – Rio 2016, in the presence of many elected officials, leaders, and former athletes, including former Olympic champion Alain Bernard.
Through this emblematic team, composed of 31 athletes registered in 12 of the Olympic or Paralympic disciplines at the highest international level, the Department positions itself as an official partner of these great champions.
9 have already participated in London 2012: Emilie FER – Hamilton SABOT – Florence DOUMESCHE-GUEDOUN – Elodie LORANDI – Cynthia VESCAN- Damien JOLY- Charlotte BONNET – Anna SANTAMANS and Stéphane CHRISTIDIS;
4 came back with medals: Emilie FER, gold medal – Hamilton SABOT, bronze medal – Charlotte BONNET, bronze medal and Elodie LORANDI, 1 gold medal, 1 silver, and 2 bronzes.
To take this new step with the athletes, the department will provide financial assistance to the athletes and their clubs.
Each athlete will receive assistance of 2500 euros, and an equivalent amount will be paid to their club.
For those selected to participate in the Olympics, an additional bonus of 2500 € will be awarded to them.
Finally, medalists will be rewarded based on the color of their medal: gold 5,000 €, silver 3,000 €, and bronze 2500 €.
To date, 3 athletes from TEAM 06 have already been selected by their respective Federations for the Rio Games, a selection that remains subject to validation by the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF).
They are Zelimkhan KHADJIEV, (Nice Wrestling Club), Jean QUIQUAMPOIX (Antibes Shooting Sports), Alexis RAYNAUD (Antibes Shooting Sports).
